Italian-born Alessia Semeraro is an accomplished jewelry designer-maker, boasting 20 years of experience in contemporary jewelry design-making.
She relocated to London in 2001, driven by her lifelong passion for jewelry, where she pursued her education at Central St. Martin's and the London Guildhall University. Her studies culminated at the Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, where she had the opportunity to study under the tutelage of Manfred Bishoff and Manuel Vilhena.
Alessia's unique approach to jewelry design is characterized by her use of unconventional materials, such as iron and burnt wood, and more precious materials like 24ct gold and recycled silver. Her minimalist and abstract aesthetic is centered around the concept of material integrity and proportion. This innovative approach has earned her a reputation as a pioneer in the industry, and has helped to solidify her position in contemporary jewelry design.
Throughout her career, Semeraro has been recognized for her artistic vision, earning selection for numerous international exhibitions at galleries and museums in major cities, including Rome, Padua, London, Vienna, Berlin, Barcelona, Lisbon, Prague, Boston, and San Francisco. Her work can be found in both private and public collections, including the Silver Museum of Pitti Palace in Florence.
Her designs have also been featured in prominent international publications, such as the Lark Books series, among others.
Alessia's return to her hometown in Italy in 2004 proved to be a pivotal moment in her career. Drawing on her international relationships and extensive knowledge of contemporary jewelry, she co-founded AGC, the first Italian Association of Contemporary Jewelers.
Her leadership and innovation served as an inspiration to her peers, establishing her as a respected and influential figure in the industry.
During the 2020 pandemic, Alessia used the time to further her studies and expand her skillset. Her passion for accessories led her to pursue the diploma in Millinery Fashion Design at the prestigious Morley College in London.
With her newfound knowledge and skills, Alessia embarked on a new project called Alex&Queen. This venture is focused on developing eco-sustainable headwear with the use of up-cycled materials, reflecting her commitment to environmentally-conscious making practices.
Alessia also created MUMoosh, a silver collection in collaboration with her 7-year-old son. This affordable collection was designed to celebrate the special bond between parents and their children, honoring Alessia's own experience of motherhood.
By working on this project with her son, she has demonstrated her commitment to using her art to connect with others on a personal and emotional level.
Today, she divides her time between London and Italy, where she resides with her husband Leo and their son.
